Department of Pediatrics, University of Utah School of Medicine
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine has initiated a nationwide search for an innovative academic pediatric neonatologist to serve as the Chief of the Division of Neonatology. The Chief will have oversight responsibility for the newborn intensive care units (NICU) at the University of Utah Hospital, Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH), and Intermountain Medical Center. The Division Chief will define and execute the strategy needed to fulfill the mission of providing outstanding neonatal care, performing high-quality neonatology research, and educating future neonatologists and healthcare professionals.
The Division Chief will lead the Division’s growing and thriving group of faculty physicians, advanced practice clinicians, and other members of the care team in high quality, fiscally-responsible care delivery that serves an extensive area of the intermountain west. As the Chief for Neonatal Services and Neonatology, the individual will be responsible for overseeing the planning and directing of clinical operations and the development of neonatal services and neonatology at multiple units, as well as collaborating with Neonatal system leads in the Intermountain Healthcare System. Clinical operations include three NICUs with total bed capacity of 152. All invasive and non-invasive ventilatory modalities are available at all three NICUs. The level IV NICU at PCH provides all medical and surgical sub-specialty support; including common problems associated with prematurity, pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, severe chronic lung disease, liver and intestinal failure, and a broad array of congenital anomalies. Neonatal ECMO support is an integral part of our care for the most critically ill infants.
The Department of Pediatrics is the second largest department in the University of Utah School of Medicine and one of the largest pediatric departments in the country. The department is comprised of 22 medical divisions and programs operating in conjunction with four key enterprises: Education, Research, Clinical, and Academic. Divisions provide a full spectrum of specialty and subspecialty pediatric services for children throughout the Intermountain West. Pediatrics is a dynamic department dedicated to excellence in clinical care, medical education, research and knowledge expansion, and faculty development. The widespread spirit of collegiality throughout the department and the blurred distinction between faculty classes fosters the collaborative environment necessary for innovation and improvement. Our partnership with Intermountain Healthcare maximizes efforts in quality, research, risk, and process improvement. Due to our extensive resources, expertise, and quality of care, we hold the dominant market position in the Intermountain region. This bolsters our financial strength, allowing us to further invest in clinical research, faculty career development, progressive education strategies and care delivery models, and key systemic infrastructures. Faculty and staff members in the Department of Pediatrics are engaged, talented, and forward thinking, making it a rich environment for growth, discovery, and exceptional clinical care.
