Position Description

  • Current practice comprised of 2 full-time physicians and 2 full-time Nurse Practitioners
  • Level III NICU
  • 24 beds
  • Block Schedule – 24 hour shifts (in-house not required) w/NP support
  • .5 FTE
  • Daily census approx. 10 pts with an average length of stay at 14 – 18 days
  • Support staff includes an experienced NNPs, RNs, Care Coordinators, Pharmacists, Physical and Speech Therapists, Respiratory Therapists and Dieticians

Clinical Skills/Expectations

  • Invasive and non-invasive respiratory support, use of RAM cannulas, ventilator support, including high frequency oscillations, nitric oxide therapy, NCPAP therapy, surfactant therapy, exchange transfusion, echocardiology, ultrasonography, EEG monitoring, surgery, infant cooling, ophthalmologic consultation, Retcam for ROP (done by NPs) and attending high risk deliveries 
  • Endotrachael intubation, mechanical ventilation, respiratory / oxygen therapy, umbilical venous / arterial catheterization, surfactant administration, arterial blood sampling, phototherapy. peripherally inserted centralized catheter, intravenous therapy, antibiotic therapy and ABR hearing screening
  • Interdisciplinary / collaborative patient care approach includes: physician rounds, interdisciplinary care rounds, patient care conferences, performance improvement monitoring, multidisciplinary team meetings, and documentation and shared governance
